Website Traffic – Can You Build It? Yes, You Can!

Posted on by JamesMartell

Starting up your website without doing any research first about Google and keywords is like going target shooting with a bow and arrow while blindfolded. Your goal might be to get a bull’s eye, but you can’t shoot anywhere near your target if you aren’t open to learning the best way to go about hitting it. Learning about Google and how it works in regards to techniques such as search engine optimization and backlinks is essential to building traffic for your website.

If You Have a Business Then You Need a Website

Even if you only learn part of the process with plans to subcontract out the rest, at least you will have an idea of what you are talking about so that you can know the right type of person to hire to do the rest of the work. Not to mention, you will have a better handle on knowing what kind of work they ought to be doing. Once you know about how it works, set up a long-range plan.

After 26 years in practice, Sacramento chiropractor Dr. Jeri Anderson is still setting records in excellence and she attributes it to the marketing she does online. She cannot stress strongly enough the importance of having a website for your business. In an interview with James Martell on the Affiliate Buzz, an online marketing podcast, she advises, “I mean this totally from a place of love, but the world is not flat anymore, it is round. If you’re in business today, then you need a website. It’s just crazy not to have it. It’s like you’re saying the world is flat. And WordPress is a must.”

WordPress Is Worth its Weight in MBs

WordPress is a content management system that, when setup properly and with the right plugins, will automatically update Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks each time you add content to your site. It doesn’t really add a whole bunch of other work because it’s all integrated. WordPress makes it so that you don’t have to know HTML. You don’t have to be a computer techie.

So many people get a couple of months’ worth of content out and then fizzle out. WordPress allows you to schedule your posts so you can set up new content for months and months in advance. For those unfamiliar with it, WordPress is a free content management system that has basically revolutionized how to build a website online. There have been tens of millions of websites built on the internet with WordPress, and it’s the place to be when building the site.

WordPress and Google – a Winning Combination

image of a person climbing the stairs to increase web trafficOne advantage of WordPress is that it’s very Google-friendly. Google offers a wealth of traffic and exposure for small business with a minimal amount of know-how.  Before Google, looking for something online was horrible. It was literally like looking for a minuscule needle in an enormous haystack.

The benefit of Google is that it looks at the backlinks, which are links from another site that links back to yours. In Google’s mind, each backlink is like a vote of credibility. There is more to this type of virtual voting system to rank where a site falls in search engine results, but that’s the most basic way to explain it.

Social Networking for Building Traffic

Social networking is important because it gets your information out. Even if you don’t have a lot of followers, it can help with word-of-mouth marketing. There is always a chance that your followers will share your updates with the people who follow them. Even sites like Pinterest which base sharing on photos can help build traffic for your website. Regardless of how you put content online, take a good look at things your business does for people. What problems does it solve? Answer that and you’ll know what content you should be adding to your website.

During her Affiliate Buzz interview with James Martell, Dr. Jeri gave one last bit of advice, “Connect with really good people. There are a lot of great people out there, but you have to align yourself with the people who are honest and know what they are doing when it comes to stuff on the web. Dr Jeri promotes the use of proper ergonomics and posture whether you are sitting at a glass l-shaped desk or in an Internet cafe.

Otherwise you’re going to spend your wheels and spend your money and not get anywhere, when it turns out that there are things that you can do. If you are disciplined and do them all the time, you’re going to blow everybody else out of the water. That has really been my success – do something, and do it all the time. If you do that, you’re going to outpace everyone around you. And that’s what I’ve done.”
