Posted on by blog guest

You’ve started a business – you need sales. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of ways to market a business, but when it comes to low cost highly effective marketing, very few mechanisms or mediums can trump the internet. So, what should you be doing?

Linked In Groups:

Singly, one of the best ways to make the most from Linked In and it’s ever so slightly a travesty that few people actually know what a Linked In group is.

Set up your group, get known as an authority and you will even have the option to e-mail everyone in your group too.

Web Forums:

Forums are fantastic mechanisms for generating new business, however there are two things you need to be careful with: select the right forum and work to build up a reputation.

Small business forums like 4Networking.biz in the UK are perfect for service-based businesses – just don’t push the hard sell.

Search Engine Optimization:

SEO is a huge topic but in a nutshell, it’s about boosting the visibility of your website in organic search – the higher your listing appears across your search terms, the more traffic you will drive to your website. When it comes down to what to do it’s really about two things: research the search terms you need to target using The Google Keyword Tool and build quality links into your website. Websites like SEOmoz.org and SEO By The Sea are brilliant for general information.

Use E-Mail Marketing Software:

Are you collecting your clients or prospects e-mail addresses? If not, why not? Every networking event you attend, every business card you collect, every free offer you push focus on one thing: collecting that e-mail address. You will have a huge list in no time. Services like MailChimp.com and AWeber.com are great for interacting and monitoring your lists.

Affiliate Marketing:

Do you have an e-commerce store? Do you sell products directly online? If so, then consider setting up an affiliate marketing campaign – affiliates will work on your behalf to promote your services, all you need to do is fulfill the order and pay the affiliate a set commission. It can also be relatively cheap to set up your own program – there are numerous WordPress plugins for the purpose.

Content Development:

For organic search rankings, there’s little better option for your website than developing additional content – have you developed content across all of your main target search terms? Is the content completely unique? Create quality content which people want to link to.

Google News:

Google News allows legitimate publishers the opportunity to appear on the first page of results for high volume generic search queries, if you want to drive a significant amount of traffic to your website, and if you want to generate natural links, then you really can’t go wrong with this option. That said, the time requirement at a minimum is two pages of content per day – what’s more, self-promotional content is severely frowned upon.

Infographics:

Infographics are another great mechanism for encouraging engagement with your brand and yes, attracting high quality natural links – an infographic is basically a visual representation of data. There are many high quality tutorials online about creating infographics however keep in mind time will be the most precious element, particularly if you are new to graphic design.
